  • PollyO’, tested as OSU 1108.001, resulted from a cross of two numbered selections in the Oregon State University (OSU) breeding program. The cross of OSU 684.104 × OSU 669.104 was made in 2001 by Shawn A. Mehlenbacher and David C. Smith.

  • 'Wepster' will produce trees that are 80% to 100% of Barcelona. Trees will have an upright vase shape form.

  • PollyO has a high level of resistance to eastern filbert blight (EFB) caused by the fungus Anisogramma anomala. ‘PollyO’ exhibits high resistance to bud mites, so chemical control applications should not be necessary.

  • PollyO roots well in the layer beds making liners similar to McDonald and Jefferson. PollyO performs well as softwood cutting producing small, well rooted plants for potting and/or field plantings.

  • 'PollyO' is cross-compatible with ‘Wepster’ and ‘McDonald’ serving as pollinizers for each other and an alternative for ‘Yamhill’. PollyO’ is suited for the blanched kernel market. Kernel texture, flavor and aroma should command a premium price in the market. Kernel size 11-13 mm in diameter is preferred by the Chocolate product industry.
